Katchafire and Anuhea Headline Kauai's Spring Music Lineup
Kauai doesn't host many arena shows — there's no arena. What it has instead is an intimate live-music scene tucked into community pavilions and surf-town venues, and two of the biggest acts in the Pacific island music scene are lining up April dates on the north side. Katchafire, the New Zealand-born reggae band whose name has become shorthand for island radio, plays Anaina Hou Porter Pavilion in Kilauea on April 19. Six days later, Hawaiian singer-songwriter Anuhea takes the same stage on April 25.
Anaina Hou is about as far from a corporate concert venue as you can get — open-air, community-run, with a small craft food court and a playground nearby for the families who show up early. Both shows will draw fans from across the islands, and tickets for Katchafire Kauai dates historically sell out well before the show.
If you're going: Kilauea is a 40-minute drive from Lihue. Bring a light jacket — the north side cools off quickly after sunset — and walk in early to claim a spot near the stage. Food trucks are usually on-site.
